On Sunday, October 21 we brought the family to New-gate Prison - kind of a strange place for a family visit, right?  Actually, Old New-gate Prison & Copper Mine was America's first copper mine, and also the very first colonial prison.  It's now open to the public, and features a picnic area with a nice view.  We took the scenic route getting there, driving around Connecticut's scenic back roads for a couple hours, taking in the fall foliage.  Here we are!

Here's one shot from inside the prison walls.

Here are the girls on our picnic table, with the panoramic view behind them - you could definitely see for miles around.

Mom looking pensive, Grandma looking at the view, and Courtney probably looking at the back of her eyelids.

Here are Amy and Hayley down in the mines - there were a series of underground mines (50+ feet below the ground) that were open to the public, showcasing where the inmates slept, where solitary confinement was, etc.  Very dark, very wet, and a very low ceiling.

I couldn't figure out a way to get the stocks into the minvan without anyone noticing - I'm sure they'll come in handy right around the time the girls start dating...

That's right, Shelby - your hand goes in right about... THERE!
