The Fairchilds' Newest Arrival / Mother's Day Picnic / Dangling

No, our newest arrival is not another baby... although that is a related issue.  Because of our upcoming arrival in October (we found out this last Wednesday that it will be a baby girl), we've expanded our vehicle repertoire.  On Saturday May 19 we picked up our new Chevy Venture WB.  You can read some more details about it on the Fairchild's Cars page.

The first thing we did is let the girls play with it - here's Amy posing outside of the power sliding door, with the chalupas already getting comfortable with the seats.

Their next step was to of course check out the front seat - and play with the zillions of little buttons on the dashboard and control center.  They even figured out how to turn on the VCR unit way down at the bottom.

Here's a view from the back, with the two rear seats folded down, and the middle right seat folded forward.  Each of the 3 middle seats and the 2 rear seats can fold down, fold forward, or come out independently.  We've already figured out how to set up the seats for short trips, long trips, trips with the dogs, trips with two car seats, trips with three car seats, etc.  One thing became abundantly clear the first time I sat down in the driver's seat and looked in the rear view mirror - those back seats are *really* far away - and the back of the car even further!  Maybe I shouldn't make fun of the "Reverse Aid" feature that beeps when you're about to back over something...

Hayley is apparently ready for her driver's permit.  The words "over my dead body" keep running through my mind.

Shelby was ready to get behind the wheel as well.  She actually was the first one to get behind the wheel, but I didn't have the camera ready at that point.  As soon as she climbed in the sliding door, she went straight to the driver's seat, sat down with her little legs dangling, and grabbed the wheel in two hands.  She wasn't exactly able to grab the wheel at "10 and 2", but her short little arms were able to grab the wheel at about maybe 5 and 7...
